The Opportunity
Epic Placements is partnering with an established, globally recognized life reinsurance organization to find an experienced Life Insurance Underwriter for a remote, contract-to-hire opportunity.
We’re looking for someone who has actually done the underwriting — reviewing life insurance applications, evaluating medical and financial risk, and making sound underwriting decisions. This isn’t an entry-level insurance position or an administrative underwriting support role. We need someone who understands the life insurance underwriting process and can contribute with minimal ramp-up.
It’s a great opportunity for an experienced underwriter looking to bring their expertise to a well-established organization with a strong presence in the life and reinsurance industry.
What You’ll Do
• Review and evaluate life insurance applications, medical records, and supporting underwriting documentation.
• Assess medical histories, mortality risk, financial considerations, and other factors impacting insurability.
• Make or recommend underwriting decisions in accordance with established guidelines and assigned authority.
• Identify additional information needed to complete risk assessments.
• Document underwriting decisions accurately and maintain organized case files.
• Collaborate with underwriting colleagues and internal stakeholders to resolve complex cases and maintain timely turnaround.
• Apply sound judgment while balancing risk management, accuracy, and efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
• Hands-on experience underwriting life insurance policies is required.
• Ideally 3+ years of direct life insurance underwriting experience.
• Strong understanding of medical underwriting, risk classification, and life insurance products.
• Experience reviewing medical records, attending physician statements (APS), laboratory results, and other underwriting evidence.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate risk and make or recommend underwriting decisions.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound professional judgment.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote environment.
Nice to Have
• Experience with individual life insurance, traditional life underwriting, or life reinsurance.
• Experience handling complex medical cases or facultative underwriting.
• Familiarity with underwriting manuals, automated underwriting platforms, or digital risk-assessment tools.
• Industry designations such as ALU, FLMI, or FALU.
Why This Opportunity?
You’ll have the chance to put your underwriting experience to work with an established organization known for its expertise in life and health reinsurance. The position offers remote flexibility, an opportunity to contribute meaningful underwriting expertise, and the potential to transition into a long-term position.
Interested? We’d love to connect with experienced life insurance underwriters who are ready for their next opportunity.
