Job Title: Vice President, Electrical Engineering
Location: Anchorage, Alaska (On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $200,000 – $250,000 annually, DOE

Position Overview

The Vice President of Electrical Engineering will oversee the full spectrum of engineering operations including transmission, distribution, and substation design and execution. This executive leader will be responsible for guiding the engineering department’s strategic direction, project performance, and technical excellence—all while building a culture of innovation, collaboration, and high reliability.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Set strategic direction for engineering operations aligned with organizational goals.

  • Identify emerging technologies to enhance service reliability and sustainability.

  • Champion continuous improvement and modernization initiatives.

Team & Department Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing engineering team, including engineers, designers, CAD/GIS technicians, and ROW professionals.

  • Foster professional development and technical excellence across the department.

Project & Technical Execution

  • Oversee engineering design, planning, and execution for capital and maintenance projects.

  • Review and approve technical documentation, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and internal quality expectations.

  • Ensure timely, on-budget, and high-quality project completion.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with departments including Operations, System Control, and Communications to ensure alignment across organizational functions.

  • Serve as a key liaison for internal and external stakeholders on engineering matters.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.

  • Optimize spending and resource allocation to achieve engineering goals efficiently.

Regulatory & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Champion a strong safety culture across the team.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alaska (or the ability to obtain)

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in the electric utility industry

    • At least 5 years of executive or senior leadership experience

  • Technical Skills:

    • Deep knowledge of electrical systems, grid planning, and utility design standards

    • Proficiency in engineering software and project management tools

  • Leadership Traits:

    • Strategic mindset, collaborative leadership style, and exceptional communication skills

    • Proven success in leading cross-functional teams and complex infrastructure projects
